Five states (plus Montana LLC) have full built-in tools. For every other state, find the buyer's DMV, check the rules that apply everywhere, and ask a partner bureau to quote the filing.

Rules that apply almost everywhere
- The buyer usually titles and registers in their home state, and pays that state's sales/use tax there.
- Most states credit sales tax already paid to another state — don't collect tax twice.
- Expect to need the signed title or MSO, a bill of sale, an odometer statement (vehicles under 20 years old) and the buyer's ID.
- Many states require a VIN inspection or verification for vehicles coming from out of state.
- Proof of insurance in the buyer's state is usually needed before plates are issued.
- If there's a loan, list the lienholder on the title application.
